When I was growing up I would at times overhear someone remarking to my parents that my brother and I seemed so independent and yet we still enjoyed time as a family and mostly respected curfew. When asked how they did it, how did they raise teenagers who would end up back home when we needed to be, my dad would simply smile and ask in return,
"How do you hold a bird?" He would then hold out his open hand palm up and say,
"Like this."
